This bug has been in Thunderbird for some time - it appears in all
Ubuntu releases from at least 10.04.  I have copied the .thunderbird
into each new release so have not seen the bug until now.  I think it
should be possible to demonstrate it by using a false username etc.
Note that the password always has to contain a digit and an uppercase
letter.  My password is six characters long.
