Thanks Kiran. But you got me into trouble there.

the part that you asked me to change was:
change
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""acpi_backlight=vendor

but it was shown on the file as:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

I did the change as you mentioned and then saved it and ran the other
command in your list.

There was no change at all.

So I thought I might do a restart. The system got caught in an endless
loop on the Ubuntu loading page. So I used the power button to shut down
again. This time around I got the Grub loader page which gave me several
options like Ubuntu, Load Ubuntu with advanced settings etc. I had to
keep shutting down as the first and second option still did not load
Ubuntu. Third time I saw the option to edit settings before loading and
used it. I could see the "acpi" sentence in the screen and deleted it.
Finally Ubuntu loaded. I went back to the command that you asked me to
update and removed it.

Is this normal please?
