** Description changed: When having a continuous source of sound playing (like listening to music), one can hear that the volume of the music drops to 0 every few seconds (roughly every 10 seconds with a large variance, sometimes twice a second, sometimes only once a minute) and resumes the previous value after a few milliseconds (maybe 100 or so). This is really annoying and makes listening to music a pain because it results in some crackling. Strangely enough, I can even observe the behaviour in alsa-mixer. Whenever the volume drops, I can see how the sliders for Surround, Center, LFE and Side quickly get muted (I see the "MM" appear below the slider for a split second) and then resume the previous volume. On top of that, the Master slider sometimes increases by a few percent and resumes the previous level. This happens less frequent than the mutes, but is equally annoying. I can reproduce this behaviour both from a Kubuntu 13.04 LiveCD without any additional programs installed as well as from the command line without running X. Furthermore, Kubuntu 12.10 and 12.04 LTS already had this problem. I tried uninstalling pulseaudio which did not solve the problem. Upgrading to the latest alsa version as listed under <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa> did not solve the problem either (I could only use the DKMS solution because apt couldn't find the - snapshot packages after adding the audio-dev repository) The problem - does not occur under Windows, so I can more or less certainly eliminate - a h/w-problem... + snapshot packages after adding the audio-dev repository) I disconnected + the headphones as well as the mic, no change...
