Played around with various combinations of the iwlwifi module parameters
'5ghz_disable=1', '11n_disable=1' and 'swcrypto=1' using kernel 3.8.0-24
without any success. The -23 kernel continues to work fine (no special
iwlwifi parameters).

The -24 kernel changelog
[http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/l/linux/linux_3.8.0-24.35/changelog]
does mention a few wifi-related fixes, perhaps one of them is the
culprit.
