Sooooooo... after months of wrestling with this, a problem I thought I
had ruled out is indeed the problem.

If I unplug my laptop and run it with just the battery, NO FREEZES. Of
course the battery will only last so long. But the moment I plug the
beast back in, it freezes. I swapped a/c adaptors, power bar and tried
a different wall outlet. The jack on the laptop itself doesn't seem to
be loose, so I can only conclude that it's something on the motherboard
and I think it'd be cheaper to scrap it than to have it fixed.

So, dude, I'm gettin' a Dell. about 150 bucks in Japan, new, for their
bottom-of-the-line model. Sigh.

For anyone else suffering random freezes, good luck. I'm going to
retire from this thread.
