I now think that my problem was caused by lack of disk space - culprit was a different application. Prior to discovering this I uninstalled TB 17.06 and installed Daily (i.e. TB 24.0a 2013-06-12) which also crashed in the same way but became stable when I removed my second imap account from it. Anyway after I freed up some 2G of disk space I have now added back the second imap account and Daily runs happily.
