Public bug reported: Since a few weeks update-manager seems to get stuck during the update process and overheating my laptop.
The update window shows me the message "downloading from de.archive.ubuntu.com" and the bar is full. My cpu is running at 100% on all cores. The gnome system monitor shows me only 25% usage, but that cant be true because the fan is running on full speed. The systems monitor seems to be stuck too. Likely due to the high cpu usage of the update manager. Once I quit the update process the cpu usage for the process jumps up to 100% for a second before it is gone from the list. I have to shut down the process manually before emergency shutdown (goes way beyond 80 degrees celcius) Once I force update-manager to shut down my temps go down again and the fan slows down too. Everything is back to normal. The odd thing is when using synaptic to update my packages everything is fine. I started having this problem a while back, but then after the update worked once I thought it was gone.
