This is happening in 13.04 too. Part of the problem seems to be its intermittent nature. A combination of button presses and eject commands eventually opens the drive (at least in my case).
Comment #5 didn't work for me. (I got the same results listed in comment #6.) Then I tried "sudo eject -i off" again and it opened when I pressed the button. One observation: this only seems to happen when the drive is empty.
