I apparently have the same problem: I insert an audio CD and a writeable CD. Then I choose the Copy Disc entry from the audio CD contextual menu. The process of copying and writing completes without signalling any errors, but the resulting CD cannot be read either by Ubuntu or by my DVD reader, which says it is a "VCD 1.0" disk, but does not play it.
