I have already solved the problem (as I said) by manually installing
libudev0

I have Chrome 28.0.1500.95
I had installed Chrome ages ago via apt-get, and it keeps updated through
ubuntu's automatic updates.

Also, if a third-party package depends on another package (in this case
libudev0), then it _is_ the package manager's responsibility to either
not uninstall that package, or issue a warning. Isn't that all package
managers are about?
