No, it should not be necessary to add the shortcut explicitly, and it
works out of the box here. I wonder whether some other application
interfering with/reacting to the ctrl++ instead of gnome-terminal could
cause this, but I have no idea what that would be. (Especially since
zoom out works without issues.)
