Adding the "acpi_backlight=vendor" kernel parameter allows my system (Dell Vostro 3750) to boot with different USB devices connected to the USB 3.0 ports. This solution was suggested by Len Brown in https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42844#c4 -- Regards, Wojtek
