I'll be glad to help if I can, but I'm not sure where you are coming from so you'll need to answer a few questions first. Are you able to use Ubuntu after it completes booting? If so I can tell you how to edit the grub configuration file using the GUI text editor. If you can't boot at all into the GUI, even after waiting through the long period of black screen, we will need to go about this another way! In this case, tell me what you DO see when you boot up. Are you getting a grub menu displayed at all, or just a line or two of text at the top of the screen followed by the blank screen.
