Re my own comment #27 I've got this working by changing my wireless network to unsecured. It connected. I then returned the wireless to secured and it's worked fine since. That's just a couple of hours so I'll see how it goes. Throughout this fiasco my XP desktop and Android phone have behaved perfectly.
