I have installed the latest PPA version as of now (3.9.1) and I am still experiencing this bug. There are also a number of other situations where I also get simialar behavior. It seems that many system dialog boxes break. I'm on Ubuntu 12.04.3 with Unity2D.
Another situation where I get the hang: 1. Configuration Menu -> Preferences for Current Account 2. Advanced Section 3. Select checkbox for any folder (e.g. put sent messages in...) 4. Click "Browse" button to see IMAP folders 5. Folder selector is unusable and doesn't accept keyboard or mouse input However the original preferences window accepts keyboard/mouse input and after you close it, then you can close the folder selector (which now doesn't do anything anyway).
