In my case freezes become more infrequent and shorter (but they do not disappear) when I remove the tracker package, so I believe it is somehow linked to hard disk access.
I'm using the Radeon driver: VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV610 [Radeon HD 2400 PRO/XT] I haven't seen a link to the sound so far.
