Sorry, I was confused: I thought "Fix released" applied to precise also, which is not true obviously. However I was successful with the quantal packages (qemu-*-1.2.0+noroms-0ubuntu2.12.10.5, seabios_1.7.0-1, vgabios_0.7a-3ubuntu2). After installing those and a night full of test runs, things appear to be fine again.
