I experienced this bug a few days ago. The cause was the password timeout issue mentioned above. Normally, Saucy doesn't require sudo password when running the updater, so starting it up and leaving the computer is normal user behavior. Something in this update, however, triggered the password requirement, but since I was afk it timed out and the error was all I saw upon returning.
