I managed to break my ubuntu install and in the process of fixing the
problem I fixed the sound issue.

I had setup my own partition table and when I rebooted Ubuntu compliened
about the /boot/efi was corrupt. In the process of fixing the problem
one sugguestion was to ensure that the BIOS bootspeed was set to normal
and not fast. When I was looked at the settings I notice that the boot
option was set to [UEFI BOOT]. One of the options was [CSM BOOT] that
allows booting from external devices.

Steps:
1. Boot
2. Hold F2 during power up to get to the BIOS
3.Tab over to the Advances tab
4. Use the down arrow to get to the System Configuration (at the bottom) and
press enter.
5.Set the Boot Mode to CSM Boot
6. Press F10 key to save and exit
7 Reinstall ubnutu

Before I installed Ubuntu I tested the sound and to my surprise it
WORKED!!!

The installation worked find and I have sound.

I don't know why the CSM boot option fixed the sound issue, since ubuntu
installed without the change before, but it appears to interfere with
some components.
