This also happens on Xubuntu 13.10 i386 with gtk-gnutella 0.98.4-1. I get the 
following message when I launch gtkg from the command line:
zapman@xubuntu:~$ gtk-gnutella

***MEMORY-ERROR***: [2882]: GSlice: failed to allocate 504 bytes
(alignment: 512): Cannot allocate memory

Aborted (core dumped)

(This was discussed on the SourceForge bug report Mark mentioned).
Fortunately, compiling and installing gtk-gnutella 1.0 works just fine
so it would be great to have this package updated.
