And now the fix:

sudo gedit /etc/default/grub

Find the line with:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="splash quiet"

and modify it to look like this: 
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="splash quiet acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'"

Save and close editor.
Then:
sudo update-grub
and restart.

Wi-Fi Fn key should work by switching ON/OFF Airplane Mode

PS: I haven't tested this, but if in earlier versions of Ubuntu you had
problems with Fn keys not working and some other fix did the job for
you, that fix may be the match for this case.
