Public bug reported:

On occasion, the operating system will boot up fine. Most of the time,
it will give the following error about 1 second after I select to boot
the OS in grub (dual boot with Vista).

[ 0.242237] <0>Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
[ 0.242459]

I'm using an Acer Aspire 5720-6497 that is brand new, and the few times
I can boot into Linux, things seem to run just fine. I've run Ubuntu on
a few desktops as well as a laptop, all running without a hitch. Also,
this effects both kernel 2.6.20-15 and 2.6.20-16.

** Affects: Ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
