After recovery mode login and apt-get updat and then dist-upgrade a lot
of stuff was upgraded.

danie@weer:~$ cat .dmrc
[Desktop]
Language=af_ZA.utf8
Layout=us
Langlist=af_ZA:en
LCMess=af_ZA.UTF-8
Session=gnome-fallback-compiz

Now I can login again. Now in gnome-flashback. Font is very small and I
still have flickering of screen on mouse movement and window refresh. No
flickering with recovery mode login.

 cat .xsession-errors
