Public bug reported:

Sound card outputs during hardware (Sony) boot. Crackles twice then
there is no sound coming from internal or 'green' port to external
speakers.

Yes, I have tride to follow several 'fixes' to 'mode' something file
with no success. Running the 'ubuntu-bug' routine surprisingly produced
sound thru the speakers with both tests, so I know ubuntu can get there
- just don't have the right setup.

My initial install to this laptop was to only install 13.10 over an old
ubunto release (maybe 10. something). completely replacing what was
there. Maybe install didn't quite recognize the combo sound/USB
hardware.

Thanks for your help - BTW will be using this machine for HAM radio
sound interface for digital modes like 'fldigi' suite. I believe that
software is a little fussy about the sound card setup also - fldigi has
been installed using 'Software Center' but of course will not work until
I have the sound card setup properly.
