As Thomas Dickey above says mawk 1.3.4 at least allows unsigned int
values up to 4294967295.

Is there any reason the standard mawk package is stuck at 1.3.3? I have
been using a compiled version of 1.3.4 and not only does it extend the
range of unsigned ints but it also contains a number of bug fixes and
executes about 30% faster on average.
