Hi all, For what it's worth, I think it's an issue with the Unity shutdown mechanism, I've had this problem for months on multiple kernels, various video drivers and have attempted all the suggested workarounds to no avail. A few months ago I just installed KDE and have not seen the issue since. Please note,I did not perform a reinstall of Ubuntu, just added KDE to my existing installation.
