Currently on kernel 3.9.4-030904-generic and I just had this lockup
again. Is there anything else I can try, debug info I can give?

The last lines in syslog before the fresh boot are

Dec  3 21:27:19 segnus kernel: [  787.909643] audit_printk_skb: 27 callbacks
suppressed
Dec  3 21:27:19 segnus kernel: [  787.909654] type=1400
audit(1386134839.709:27): apparmor="DENIED" operation="capable" parent=1
profile="/usr/sbin/cupsd" pid=982 comm="cupsd" pid=982 comm="cupsd"
capability=36  capname="block_suspend"

but I don't know the timings -- that could have been a good few minutes
before the lockup.
