Hi, I am experiencing the same problem. I have upgraded to 13.10 from
13.04 and after I log in the top menu (status) bar displays the name of
the current open application and rest is blank. So, if I have a terminal
open it displays "Terminal" on left hand side and rest of menu bar is
empty.

For me, it is not intermittent. At no point has anything else been
visible in the top bar.
