Dear Christopher,  sorry for the delay. I tried to make an extensive set of 
experiments, using live installations. The new "Trusty" version starts the 
wireless connection immediately (both 32 and 64 bit systems). However, also the 
live installation of 12.4.3 (32 bits) works perfectly, which is peculiar (it is 
the same version installed on my HD)...
More experiments with the current (troublesome) HD installation showed that 
after disabling and re-enabling wireless once or twice, usually the connection 
can be completed. Any idea of why this happens?
