Ok, I was just making sure you were calling yum in the context of
creating a chroot and not expecting it to manage Ubuntu packages.

Please try the workaround in bug #1200288, namely setting sslverify to
false either in a yum config file or on the command line, for example:

  yum --config=/path/to/config --installroot=...
--setopt=sslverify=false

and comment back here if that works around the error you are seeing.
