There are several duplicate bugs in gnome for the problem but I think they will ignore/close all because is their choice too remove that feature(!); eventually I think that the bug to follow is https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=145244
I use a lot the wheel for switch tab and I want to remark that is active by default in qt (and is a parameter!) In the other distro I use, I have to apply the patch after every update but actually in Ubuntu I hope they will do it.
