I just did it too. Using openSUSE 13.1 live-dvd device notifier does not list the camera (strange because it does with Kubuntu). But entering the url camera:/ in dolphin works as user and the camera gets mounted. Digikam works for me with both Kubuntu 13.10 and openSUSE 13.1. I am able to reproduce the problem with Kubuntu 13.10 also with konqueror.
