I can confirm this problem still persists also. Martin -- I hacked this workaround, that maybe can work for you too.
I mapped 'sudo /home/ebutler/bin/backlight.sh up' to Ctrl-F10 (my backlight is Fn-F10) using the keyboard shortcut options, and added ebutler ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /home/ebutler/bin/backlight.sh to /etc/sudoers and it works pretty well. Maybe you have to tweak the $BACKLIGHT_DIR or something to make it work. I'm using the Intel adapter. ** Attachment added: "backlight.sh" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1257766/+attachment/3943819/+files/backlight.sh -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1257766 Title: can not reduce brightness on HP ZBook To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1257766/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
