Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I use 6 workspaces with metacity. I tend to switch a lot between them
using the 'Switch to workspace n' keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+F1 -
Ctrl+F6). Here are a few issues with compiz which make it barely usable
for me:

* The six workspaces got changed into one workspace with six viewports. The
main problem with this is that partially offscreen windows are visible on
adjacent viewports as well.
E.g. When I move a window to the far right so that half of it is offscreen
and then switch to the next viewport, i see the half of the window I've just
hidden.
(I found no work-around for this. Setting 'Numbers of Desktops' to 6 and
'Horizontal Virtual Size' to 1 actually made things worse.)

* The 'Switch to workspace n' shortcuts don't work anymore. (You can
work-around this by using 'Desktop Plane' instead of 'Desktop Wall')

* There's no way (at least I found none) to turn off effects for
viewport/workspace switching. The effects can get quite annoying when you
switch a lot, especially when going a long way (e.g. from viewport 1 to
viewport 6).
The effects may look nice but they are distracting when you switch between
viewports more than once per minute. They're also a slower than the old instant
no-effects switching.

** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
