Interesting that you should mention this. Sounds a lot like bug #1241767. I mentioned gnome-terminal when I filed that one but it affects other programs too. It's more easily noticed with gnome-terminal because it grows an entire row of text rather than a few pixels but I find myself resizing Thunderbird and Rhythmbox every few days as well.
