I have the same problem(s). My main interactions with multiple desktops are:
1. Hitting (Ctrl+1 - Ctrl+4) - (Ctrl+F1 - Ctrl+F4) (8 desktops) to switch desktops. The implementation of the desktops as viewports within the same workspace means that all the windows appear together in the Task Switcher applet, and switching desktops via shortcut doesn't work properly at all. As the reporter said, you can kind of work-around this with the Desktop Plane plugin, but the effects aren't always desirable. 2. Grabbing and moving windows between desktops via the Workspaces applet. The result is moved windows are in desktops unreachable by my worked-around key bindings (which now switch to different viewports, not different workspaces). These are some of the main things holding me back from using the Desktop Effects (other is broken video for my i945GM).
