I have tried moving from manual to auto using ofono scripts (/usr/share/ofono/scripts).
Switching back and forth between auto/manual mode with ./test-network-registration default ./test-network-registration /ril_0/operator/<op_id> works, and changes get reflected in Cellular page (scan-for-operators, then list-operators will show the operator ids to use with test-network- registration).
