Now that I try, via File->OpenFolder in Gnome-mplayer, the mp4 file is
greyed out and not possible to select. But it can be played via
File->OpenRecent

So there is definitely something strange in Gnome-mplayer.

I have not tweaked the system or installed some extra package, only
installed Lubuntu into a non-English language (Swedish).
