Public bug reported:

The key bindings for ibus "next input method" conflicts with Emacs and
prevents its use. ibus should not use ctrl+space for anything, leave
that for Emacs. Some other key combination can be used such as
ctrl+shift+space, maybe:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Keyboard

Regardless, ctrl-space cannot be used. Using ctrl+space prevents the
use of Emacs.

IBus->Preferences->General->Keyboard shortcuts : next input method ->
ctrl+shift+space
