Public bug reported: I've upgraded from Kubuntu 13.10 to 14.04 using do-release-upgrade -d And it installed some GNOME components and other packages that are not of Kubuntu and wasn't anywhere near installed before upgrading. Additionally, that GNOME components broke my keyboard layout settings.
