Hi Harald, Thanks for the info - I thought I'd post it here since I can only replicate it in a live environment, which uses the ubuntu specific casper initramfs.
Regarding the ~/.xsession-errors file, this exists in my profile but the ~/.cache/upstart/startkde.log does not. I've just tested on a recent daily Kubuntu build (from last week) and it's the same situation. Is this change only specific to ubuntu proper (ie running unity?)
