I have the same problem on the Gutsy Tribe 5 Live CD. I have an Acer AL1916W 1440x900 widescreen monitor, and the 1440x900 resolution is not listed. In fact, only 4x3/5x4 resolutions seem to be in this list. I have an ATI Radeon X1600 video card.
Ubuntu should be able to autodetect my monitor, since dccprobe gives useful information.
