Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vbetool

I am running gutsy on a Thinkpad X40 (with the -intel driver).
A significant minority of my resumes from RAM leave the half-moon light
blinking with a black screen.
If I hit Ctrl-Alt-F1 and then Alt-F7 I get back to X and can then quickly
unlock and kill vbetool.

If I don't kill it within about 10 seconds of getting back to X though,
it locks the machine entirely (no sysrq).

I'm not sure if this is the same as #130979 (I have commented in that
bug, but the original reporter seems to think he is seeing something
else).

What can I do to provide some useful debugging? I was hoping to get some
strace/gdb info, but the very short window of time before the machine
hangs makes this quite hard. Next time it happens I'll see if I can use
the machine from the console and try to get some information from there.

** Affects: vbetool (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
