Public bug reported:

Fresh install. When trying to change the master volume, nothing
happens. I can change the volume through audacious, but not from the
gnome panel. In the alsamixer, the master volume is changed only
when/if I modify the headphone levels (i.e., I can have the master
volume at zero or 100 and the music volume comming out from the speakers
is the same).

Also, on login there is no sound at all, just a couple of beeps
---though, maybe that part is not supposed to be there yet.

** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
