After updating from Ubuntu 13.10 to 14.04. I have a laptop with an Intel graphic card and a VGA monitor plugged. I use Gnome3 but same behavior with Unity.
* lightdm dual screen perfect * login to my session : IHM freeze, mouse flickering left/right/left/right … and no VGA monitor * just unplug the VGA : works fine on my laptop screen directly * login to my wife session : everything works ! I got crazy many minutes and I have suspected xrandr : I seen in a log file a refresh rate flickering. I finaly find a ~/.config/monitors.xml and I replace mine by my wife version : problem solved!
