Hi Christopher again ! I will send you a DMESG extract to explain what I'm talking about. Meanwhile I managed to get Precise working again, but my sound problem still exists. XP has no problem using it which proves that it is not a hardware or volume issue.
Best regards Theo Bagchus P.S. I used Libre to create this document. ======================================== Message Received: Apr 20 2014, 07:01 PM From: "Christopher M. As well, Lucid is EoL as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases . You would want to utilize a supported release when attempting to use Ubuntu. The latest stable LTS available is now http://releases.ubuntu.com/trusty/ . Thank you for your understanding. I only got 3 Gigabyte for Ubuntu and it keeps complaining about not enough space. I tried to remove the old versions and run janitor but it refuses. None of the hints on the web don't work either. They seem to refer discontinued software and repositories. My sound card ESS ES 1869 is not activated and it shows dummy sound. The more I try the worse it gets !!! I tried Gpart but I am not quite advanced enough to use that either. There is no description for the various partitions.
