Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to Trusty yesterday, the XFCE4 indicator applet no
longer works. I can install it in the panel and see all my indicators
appear, but within a few seconds it crashes, the indicators disappear
and I get a message offering to remove the applet from the panel.

I did not have this problem while I was using Saucy.

It sounds like the same issue as bug #996218 (which was declared invalid
because it involved a package not included in Ubuntu at the time, but
which affected a few people).
