DisplayConfigGtk and BulletproofX are both important, yet they are just
workarounds to the true underlying problems I've outlined in the above
link.

Please join with me in drafting up a much better, more powerful solution
to this monitor detection mess.  Contribute your thoughts, ideas, and
questions in the wiki page above, to help us conceptualize a real fix to
the problem for Ubuntu (and hopefully Debian too).
