** Description changed:

  Adding "Indicator applet appmenu" to a panel in gnome classic/fallback
  causes all items in the panel to disappear. Alt+right-click -> delete on
  the upper left of the panel causes everything to be fixed.

+ 1. install gnome-session-flashback.
+ 2. login in session.
+ 3. add indicator-applet-appmenu to gnome-panel. at this point menu-bar will 
dissapear.
+ 4. remove indicator-applet-appmenu from panel to get menu-bar back.

+ I think there is no regression potential. Same fix is used for external 
applets built with libpanel-applet library.
