This issue: CANNOT be fixed by using the v3.15-rc3-utopic mainline kernel CAN be fixed by using the latest xf86-video-ati (ddx) from git (following this guide http://www.x.org/wiki/radeonBuildHowTo/ ) For the last step to get xf86-video-ati (ddx) work, I need to create the xorg.conf file in /etc/X11/ (there is no such file when this happens) After reboot, the display is back to normal, so I didn't go on with the following packages in that guide.
